WESTERN Bulldogs utility Ashleigh Guest will have a delayed start to the 2020 NAB AFLW Competition after suffering ligament damage in her left knee and ankle.

The former Demon sustained the injury in a training drill last week, with the 29-year-old set to wear a leg brace for the next four to six weeks.

It's likely Guest will be available to play at some point of the season, but no clear timeframe has been set.

"It's unfortunate news for Ash, who has been really impressive throughout her first AFLW pre-season with us," general manager of women's football Debbie Lee said.

"We're confident Ash will be able to get back on the field later this season and hope to see her pull on the red, white and blue at AFLW level for the first time."

The Bulldogs will also be without Aisling Utri following the midfielder's call to sit out the season to focus on her hockey career.
