HAWTHORN star Jas Fleming has been cleared to play in round one against Melbourne on Thursday night after dealing with an eye injury, while Melbourne counterpart Liv Purcell will make her official return from a torn ACL.

The midfielder copped an accidental footy to the eye and barely featured over pre-season matches as she recovered, but versatile veteran Najwa Allen hasn't been selected.

Melbourne has also picked veteran Sinead Goldrick, who sat out the recent NAB AFLW representative match between Australia and Ireland with a knee complaint.

The Demons will unleash three AFLW debutants and hand a club debut to a fourth player.

Ruck Jacinta Hose will make her long-awaited debut after two injury-ruined seasons on Melbourne's list, while pre-season draftee and key defender Lauren Clifton will also play.

Draftee Jordy Allen (not the Collingwood player) will line up at half-back, with ex-Carlton key forward Mia Austin playing her first game for Melbourne, replacing the departed Eden Zanker.

Hawthorn key defender Annabelle (Belle) Embelton will make her AFLW debut after being signed as an injury replacement player.

The Hawks will also have three club debutants in attack, with tall Jac Dupuy (formerly Gold Coast), Niamh Martin (North Melbourne) and Poppy Stockwell (Fremantle) all named.

The 20-year-old has most recently been plying her trade at VFLW team Box Hill, and has played in three AFLW practice/match sim games already for the club.

Both squads of 30 already have five players each on the injury list ahead of round one.
