BRISBANE'S two-time AFLW premiership coach Craig Starcevich says he'd "take a call" from Tasmania, as the competition's newest expansion side sets its sights on an inaugural women's coach ahead of its entry in 2028.

The Devils have started the process of identifying candidates for their maiden AFLW senior coach and are hoping to fill the vacancy by Christmas, with Starcevich set to be a prominent name among the experienced options for the role.

Starcevich is Brisbane's inaugural AFLW senior coach, but remains uncontracted beyond this season, having guided the powerhouse Lions to flags in 2021 and 2023 as well as Grand Finals in five other campaigns.

As revealed by AFL.com.au earlier this year, Tasmania recently had its AFLW list strategy ratified at board level and has begun meeting with prospective playing targets and offering contracts to rivals within the last month.

The Devils will be able to sign up to 18 rival players as "special free agents" without having to trade for them, will be loaded with around $800,000 as part of a sign-on fund to attract targets and will have picks No.1, 5, 9, 14 and 24 in their first draft as part of the list concessions dished out by the League last December.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's The W Show earlier this week, Starcevich said such an opportunity to take on a "blank canvas" approach at an entirely new club was appealing and would make him consider a phone call from Tasmania officials.

"I'd probably take a call," Starcevich said.

"I'm pretty happy with what we're doing here. I feel like we've got time ahead of us now with a whole lot of Academy kids coming into our group that are the next wave. The other part of being here is that I'm at a very powerful footy club at the moment. Coming to work each day is a joy around the men's and women's programs.

"Yeah, I'd consider it. But any serious thought, who knows?

"But whether it's right for me, I'm not too sure."

Brisbane is 1-1 to start the AFLW season and takes on Melbourne in Casey on Sunday.
