NORTH Melbourne star Jas Garner has edged further ahead in the AFL Coaches Association's AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award leaderboard after picking up another seven votes in round five.

Garner now sits on 41 votes for the season - out of a possible 50 - and leads teammate Ash Riddell and Hawthorn ruck Lucy Wales (both on 37 votes) by four.

Wales collected nine votes from the coaches in the Hawks' win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

Five players earned a perfect 10 in round five, with Gold Coast's Charlie Rowbottom, Geelong's Georgie Prespakis, West Coast's Ella Roberts, Sydney's Chloe Molloy and Fremantle's Kiara Bowers all polling maximum votes.

Harriet Cordner was voted best on ground in the Blues-Roos clash, collecting eight votes despite Carlton's loss, while Richmond's Isabel Bacon and Melbourne's Maeve Chaplin both earned nine votes in their side's respective wins.

Every week, the two senior coaches for each game give votes on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, meaning 10 votes is the maximum a player can get in each round.

The player with the most votes at the end of the home and away season will win the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
