HAWTHORN'S women are giant killers, ending the longest winning streak in AFLW, AFL and VFL history.
Applying relentless pressure, the Hawks ground down two-time defending AFLW premier North Melbourne on Friday night for a seven-point triumph in Cairns, 4.8 (32) to 3.7 (25).
The Kangaroos' previous loss was the 2023 Grand Final. They opened 2024 with a win and a draw, before starting their historic 32-game winning streak.
This is Hawthorn's greatest AFLW win since it joined the league in 2022.
Classy Cats crank it up to down winless Pies
Geelong recorded its fifth-straight win in a shootout with Collingwood at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon, with transition footy on the menu and some big goals on display.
Ultimately a 6.1 (37) third quarter from the Cats saw off the early Pies’ challenge, with the visitors winning by 41 points.
With their first six inside 50s for the day, the Cats kicked four goals, signalling just want kind of game it was going to be, as Chloe Scheer (four goals, seven disposals) was back at her very best, and Moloney's athleticism in the front half bore 20 disposals and three goals.
After a fast start from Georgie Prespakis through the middle – recording six clearances for the opening term – despite carrying a Carly Remmos tag, the Pies opted to shift stalwart Brit Bonnici (11 disposals, six tackles, one goal) to her.
The AFLW's original tagger, Bonnici certainly minimised Prespakis' freedom around the contest, but both continued to get productive across the ground.
Dees take top spot with strong win against Blues
MELBOURNE has continued its unbeaten run in 2026, with a dominant third term the key to setting up the 34-point victory against Carlton at Casey Fields on Saturday.
The Demons, playing against the Blues for the first time since 2022, kicked four goals to one in ‘the premiership quarter’ to take the game away from their opponents en route to winning 8.10 (58) to 3.6 (24).
Tyla Hanks was everywhere, collecting a game-high 32 possessions and a goal, getting strong support from Olivia Purcell (26 and two).
Melbourne dominated disposals (+49), inside 50s (+18), and contested possessions (+24) to hand Carlton a second consecutive defeat.
Molloy lifts Swans to shake off dogged Power
THREE goals to Sydney superstar Chloe Molloy in her 75th AFLW game propelled the Swans to an impressive 14-point win against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday.
Home fans were keen to celebrate Justine Mules-Robinson’s 100th - game milestone, but the visitors finally shook loose the dogged Power with the only two goals of the last quarter to spoil the party.
With Sydney midfield dynamo Sofia Hurley absent after undergoing ankle surgery, Zippy Fish spent more time at the stoppages, and she took full advantage to finish with a team-high 26 touches.
Playing her 50th game, Port star Abbey Dowrick was on record pace with 10 tackles in the first half. She slowed in the second to finish with 12, but was influential throughout with a game-high 27 possessions.
The result made it back-to-back wins for the Swans, who improved to a 5-1 record, while the Power slipped to a third loss in a row with a 2-4 record.
Dogs down Dockers to leapfrog into the eight
THE WESTERN Bulldogs have leapfrogged Fremantle to jump back into the top eight after winning a wind-affected match 6.4 (40) to 4.6 (30) on Saturday.
Conditions were far from cyclonic at Cockburn ARC Oval, yet only a single point was kicked for the entire match to one end of the ground in a situation that would have given the Dogs a feeling of destiny when they trailed by less than a goal at three-quarter time.
The opening term may not have instilled them with such confidence as they failed to score, the Dockers kicking away through majors to Georgie Brisbane and Noa McNaughton.
However, by half-time it was the Bulldogs by 11 points on the back of four second-quarter goals.
Wayward Tigers hold on against dead-eye Giants in a thriller
A FAST-STARTING Richmond managed to hold off Greater Western Sydney's accuracy-fueled comback bid to secure a 9.14 (68) to 10.1 (61) win at Corroboree Group Oval in Manuka on Sunday.
The Tigers went into the match keen to break their pattern of alternating win-loss results following victory over St Kilda in round five, coming out of the gates fast and unlucky not to lead by more than 16 points at quarter-time.
They continued to dominate through the second term with five goals in quick time to hold what looked like an insurmountable 37-point lead at the long break.
However, the Giants completely transformed after half-time, scoring 6.0 for the the third quarter, including a double from Georgia Garnett, to give themselves a glimmer of hope at the final change.
Rising Suns flex their muscles against winless Dons
ESSENDON’S search for its first win of the season continues after the Bombers fell to Gold Coast by 41 points at Windy Hill on Sunday, 7.9 (51) to 1.4 (10).
Gold Coast took control early, keeping Essendon goalless in the first half and taking a 20-point lead into the main break.
The Bombers had to wait until the third quarter for their first goal, with Emily Gough converting after a forward-half intercept, but it was their only goal of the game.
Charlie Rowbottom was at the heart of Gold Coast’s performance with 36 disposals,7 tackles and a goal, while Niamh McLaughlin gathered 33 disposals. Anne Hatchard and Havana Harris added two goals each.
Madison Prespakis continued to lead the way for Essendon despite the result, finishing with a game-high 37 disposals, while Stephanie Wales battled in the ruck with 13 hitouts.
Eagles master windy conditions to keep Saints waiting for first win
A DOMINANT second-half has seen West Coast notch up its second win for the season, defeating St Kilda by 11-points on Sunday afternoon in warm and windy conditions at RSEA Park.
After an even first half, the Eagles’ midfield put their foot down in the third quarter where they dominated inside 50s 14 to two, led by their star Ella Roberts who finished the match with 25 disposals, 530 metres gained and nine tackles.
As a result, West Coast scored the only two goals of the third term, creating enough separation to eventually win 5.6 (36) to 3.7 (25) in front of a crowd of 1,594.
To make matters worse for the Saints, the home-side was ravaged by injury throughout the game, with first-year player Carys D’Addario ruled out at half-time with a hip injury and Irish recruit Saoirse Lally landing awkwardly in a tackle in the fourth quarter. Defenders Ella Friend (shoulder) and Paige Trudgeon (foot) were also injured but were able to play out the match.
St Kilda's winless start to the season continues, with Nick Dal Santo's troops sitting 0-6 at the bottom of the ladder.
Crows hold off arch-rival Lions in fiery finish
ADELAIDE has put a big dent in Brisbane's finals aspirations with a grinding nine-point victory at windy Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday night.
Establishing an early advantage with the breeze at their backs, the Crows were never headed and snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Lions to win 5.9 (39) to 4.6 (30).
Their third win of the season was sealed midway through the final term when exciting youngster India Rasheed nailed her left foot shot from 30m to kick the game’s only goal against the wind.
Adelaide deserved its win, dominating at clearance (35-14) and having slightly more polish than the hosts, who battled hard, but were let down by skill errors.
