THE RACE for AFLW superstar Zippy Fish is down to three, with the gun Rising Star winner deciding between moves to Fremantle and Geelong or the possibility of staying at Sydney on a new contract.

The competition's powerhouse North Melbourne had been viewed as a lead contender in the chase for the uncontracted Fish, though it can now be revealed the Kangaroos were ruled out as a possibility late last week.

Multiple sides in Victoria, including Carlton, Hawthorn, Essendon and Richmond, as well as West Coast in her home state of Western Australia, had also enquired about Fish but had already been ruled out as options.

A move home remains a real possibility for Fish, with Fremantle in the box seat should the 20-year-old opt to return to Western Australia, while Geelong is now the last remaining Victorian option for the talented midfielder.

Sydney has been kept in constant dialogue around the potential of Fish beginning contract talks and will present to the youngster imminently, though official discussions around a potential extension have not yet started with the Swans.

North Melbourne's interest in a move for Fish was real, with the Kangas stocked with multiple first-round picks to complete a trade, though the reigning back-to-back premier were informed they were out of the running across the last week.

Fish is widely viewed as one of the AFLW competition's most exciting players, having burst onto the scene in her debut season with Sydney where she claimed the Rising Star award after averaging 21 disposals per game.

She's continued her form through 2026, averaging 22 disposals per game through Sydney's 6-1 start, a campaign where rivals have been alerted to the likelihood that Fish will explore her options.
