WEST Coast has suffered a huge blow, losing best and fairest winner and vice-captain Dana Hooker for the season after a freak kitchen accident.
A knife slipped off a bench, resulting a lacerated tendon in Hooker's foot which needed surgery.
The loss of Hooker will have a big effect on the inexperienced Eagles squad, which won just one game in its inaugural season last year.
With Hooker usually demanding a tough opponent in the midfield, more pressure will now be applied to captain Emma Swanson, Irishwoman Aisling McCarthy, and youngsters Mikayla Bowen and Bella Lewis.
The injuries are starting to pile up at the Eagles, needing to dip into top-up players Jessica Low and Sasha Goranova (both from Claremont) to fill their emergency spots for Sunday's match against Fremantle.
Demi Liddle (back), Maddy Collier (concussion) and the luckless Brianna Green (ankle) have come out of the round one side.

The Dockers head into the clash unchanged.
In other team news, St Kilda's Bianca Jakobsson has made a quick recovery from a broken collarbone to return to the side to face an unchanged North Melbourne.
Greater Western Sydney has made three changes for the big clash against Adelaide with Louise Stephenson and Jess Allan both included after missing the opening round due to work commitments.
Star Crow Anne Hatchard has been named despite suffering a corked calf last week.
Brisbane and Gold Coast both made a change each for the QClash.
