COLLINGWOOD'S defensive stocks have taken a big hit just two weeks out from the finals, losing Lauren Butler and Jordy Allen for the season.

The pair picked up injuries in Sunday's loss to Brisbane, with Butler tearing her right hamstring and Allen fracturing the fifth metatarsal in her right foot.

Butler and Allen's strong lockdown roles have allowed Ruby Schleicher to rebound with relative freedom, a key part of Collingwood's resurgence this year.

The former held Izzy Huntington goalless two weeks ago, and both are clean users of the footy, going at 80 per cent this year.

"The whole program is really disappointed for Jordy and Lauren who were beginning to come into their own," Collingwood coach Steve Symonds said.

"Both girls have played important roles in the side’s backline and have consistently made an impact each game.

"We will rally around the girls and continue to engage them in the remainder of our 2021 campaign."

The Pies are yet to put a timeline on Ash Brazill's return, after the All-Australian key back ruptured her ACL at the end of February last year.

Chloe Molloy and Brianna Davey have played defensive roles in the past but are firmly ensconced in the forward line and midfield, respectively.

Draftee Bella Smith is also capable of playing in defence, but has played up forward and in the ruck this year.

Hard-nosed midfielder Ebony O'Dea – who was dropped last week – also has the skillset to swap into the backline if needed.

In other Collingwood injury news, Sarah Rowe played in the VFLW over the weekend after two weeks off with a shoulder injury.
