IT MAY have taken two years, but former Carlton teammates Darcy Vescio and Brianna Davey have finally broken bread.

Davey left the Blues at the end of the 2019 NAB AFLW season to join fierce rivals Collingwood and the "shock" move resulted in Vescio cutting ties with the superstar.

After outstanding 2021 campaigns saw Vescio rewarded with the AFLW leading goalkicker award and Davey share the League best and fairest with Fremantle's Kiara Bowers, the old mates finally reunited at last week's W Awards and on this year's final episode of the Cutting Oranges podcast.

"We have not spoken properly in two years pretty much to the day," Vescio said.

"At the end of the 2019 season you made the trade to Collingwood … it was a shock to many people.

"And genuinely you and I have not spoken pretty much since that time.

"We did have a moment last Wednesday after the W Awards where I think we were both in a pretty good space. I remember drawing a line in the sand with my finger as we were dancing, just being like 'That's it, that's it, the past is the past'.

"I obviously did not handle things very well. I took it to heart, I'm really good at ceasing contact, it's one of my best traits."

Davey went on to explain the decision to join the Magpies and admitted she would have done things differently if she had her time again.

"For the record, I also didn't handle it very well," Davey responded.

"I am a very emotional person; I think you learned that over the years I was at Carlton.

"I'm very emotional, very empathetic. So, for me letting people down is not something I like to do because I ultimately upset people and I don't like to do that.

"For me the decision was really tough, like really, really tough.

"I did really love Carlton and I loved the team and I loved you guys, like really did.

"So, it was a really, really tough thing for me to do.

"It happened really quickly but at the same time it wasn't a whim that I just went on."
