DYNAMIC small forward/midfielder Poppy Schaap has received an AFLW lifeline, added to Carlton's squad for the upcoming NAB AFLW season.

The Geelong Falcons product was surprisingly overlooked in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft, but has been brought into Ikon Park as a replacement for the inactive Serena Gibbs (mental health).

It's not exactly a like-for-like replacement, with Schaap standing at 153cm compared to Gibbs' 176cm, indicating a potential tall forward spot available for mature-age draftee Imogen Milford or free agent Jess Good given Tayla Harris' departure.

DRAFT PROFILE Poppy Schaap

"We had been tracking Poppy’s development throughout the year and are happy to have her now join our group," Carlton head of women's footy Brett Munro said.

"She loves tackling and bringing her teammates into the game which are two attributes we really value as we look ahead to the upcoming season.

"We believe Poppy has the work rate that will give her every chance to succeed as part of our program, so we are looking forward to see her do that over the pre-season and into next year."
