AFLW premier Brisbane has tapped back into a production pipeline that has served it so well over its short history.

The addition of Maggie Harmer, Bella Smith and Mikayla Pauga at Tuesday night's NAB AFLW Draft takes the number of players on the Lions' books hailing from the Sunshine Coast to seven.

More specifically, the trio all came through the Lions' Academy and played for Maroochydore in the QAFLW competition, just like current squad members Belle Dawes and Lily Postlethwaite.

Inaugural Lions Shannon Campbell and Sharni Webb were the Sunshine Coast trailblazers when the AFLW competition began in 2016.

Speaking less than 24 hours after being added to the list, Harmer – chosen with pick 18 - said her predecessors had all been "inspirations".

"It's the icing on top of the cake, to go through the whole (Academy) program and then to be rewarded with the big thing at the end is amazing," Harmer said.

Pauga said going to the club with so many familiar faces would make the transition easier.

"A lot of the girls I look up to are the girls I've been playing with over the years, so Belle and Lily have definitely been a big influence for me over the years," she said.

"Just seeing their hard work over the years, being at the club with them and seeing them behind the scenes … seeing you can work back from injury like Lil has, has been great."

Smith's story is ever-so-slightly different, originally playing 40 minutes north at Noosa as a junior before she headed to Maroochydore.

She played for her brother's team as an eight-year-old and had some prophetic words for her father.

"I told dad I thought it was something I could see myself doing and that I wanted to be the first girl to play AFL and get paid for it," she said.

"He told me 'nah, that's not going to happen' because there clearly wasn't a pathway at that stage.

"Then a couple of years later, in year eight, there was a pathway and it's amazing now I'm finally here."
