MELBOURNE'S AFLW coaching panel has received a boost with the addition of AFL premiership player Ben Brown and former AFLW player Shae Sloane for the 2022 season.

Fresh off winning a premiership with Melbourne's AFL team, Brown will take on the role of specialist coach, working with the Dees' talls and rucks.

Sloane's own AFLW career was with plagued with injuries, tearing her ACL three times across her three-year career with the Demons.

The sister of Adelaide captain Rory, Sloane announced her retirement from playing in April but has rejoined the club as a development coach.

During her recovery from injury, she became an unofficial coach within the playing group, with her role formalised on Wednesday.

"Shae is a much loved and well-respected person in our program and we’re very grateful she accepted the opportunity to return as a coach," coach Mick Stinear said.

"Due to injury in recent years, Shae has already played a significant part in supporting the coaches and players on game day and the players will benefit greatly from her experience, teaching skills and personable approach.

"As a club we are excited to support Shae on her coaching pathway."

Brown, who crossed to the Demons from North Melbourne after the 2020 season, was heavily involved with his former club's AFLW side.

"Ben has been a great supporter of women's football since its inception and brings with him previous experience from his time working with North Melbourne's AFLW Team," Stinear said.

"Ben's knowledge and experience, combined with his genuine care and passion, will be a great asset for our program and we are thankful for the support of his young family allowing him to spend time with us on top of his busy AFL schedule."

Other changes have been made to the Demons' coaching line-up, with Tamara Hyett elevated from development to assistant coach following the departure of Pat McKenna.
