TYANNA Smith's season is over before it started, with the young Saint suffering an ACL injury at training.

Smith, who was nominated for the NAB AFLW Rising Star award in her debut season, went down with an injured left knee during a training session on Saturday morning.

Subsequent scans confirmed the 19-year-old had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

"This is a very disappointing situation and we're all really feeling for Tyanna," St Kilda's AFLW boss Tessie McManus said.

"Tyanna had been having a really promising pre-season, looking to build upon her great debut earlier this year.

"We have no doubt she will attack her rehab with the same positivity and dedication she brings to our group and be back as soon as she can."

The injury comes as another blow for the Saints, who may be without another young star for season 2022 as dual best-and-fairest winner Georgia Patrikios takes an indefinite amount of time away from the game due to personal reasons.
