HAWTHORN has revealed the 50 players who will make up its inaugural W Academy as it progresses to joining the NAB AFLW competition in 2022/2023.

The Academy is made up of players aged 16-23 and the program will begin on November 13.

The sessions will be led by Hawthorn's VFLW coaches, including the newly appointed VFLW coach Cherie O'Neill, as well as an assortment of past AFLW players.

Three-time AFL premiership Hawk Jack Gunston has also been involved in the structuring of the Academy.

Hawthorn general manager operations and major projects Josh Vanderloo said forming the Academy was a key part of the club's AFLW journey.

"This is a really exciting stepping stone for the club as we continue to progress towards our move into the AFLW landscape next year," Vanderloo said.

"As well as giving these women the opportunity to develop and hone their skills, it will also give our recruiting team a closer look at these prospective talents.

"We are looking to build a strong, competitive list ahead of our entry into the AFLW competition in season seven and this is a really important step in ensuring that."
