THE AFL WOMEN'S membership record has been broken ahead of the 2022 NAB AFLW premiership season, with 10 clubs already topping their best tallies.

This season's current figure of 33,577 is inclusive of all 18 clubs, with Sydney, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Essendon introducing AFLW membership ahead of their entry in 2023.

The previous record was set in the 2021 season, with 25,782 fans registering across 14 clubs.

Incredibly, Sydney currently has the most members with 3,501 signed up, despite being a year away from its first AFLW match.

Port Adelaide has also seen strong support (1,957), ranking in the top half of club memberships.

Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Sydney have all broken their club records, with the Roos also passing the 2,000-mark for the first time.

"It’s fantastic to see football fans from across the country show their support for the sixth season of the NAB AFLW competition, which continues to go from strength to strength both on and off the field," AFL EGM customer and commercial Kylie Rogers said.

"To reach record AFLW club membership figures ahead of the first bounce of the 2022 NAB AFLW season is an outstanding achievement, and we’re excited to see this energy for women’s football continue in the lead up to the opening round on January 7."

AFL GM of women's football Nicole Livingstone said fans' response to the new clubs was particularly promising.

"It’s extremely pleasing to see fans from our newly licensed AFLW clubs support their teams ahead of their inclusion in the 2023 NAB AFLW Season and provide some healthy competition for our current AFLW club members to rise to the challenge and continue to show their passion for the game," Livingstone said.

"With the festive season upon us and a new NAB AFLW season around the corner, there’s no better time to buy a membership at your club and show your support for women’s football."

Matches will once again be ticketed in 2022, with prices remaining at $10 for adults and kids under 18 free.
