The AFL today detailed the summary of Total Player Payment (TPP) earnings across the competition for the 2012 year, to be included in the 2012 AFL Annual Report.

 

The summary shows that AFL clubs paid a total of $173.7 million in player payments, before deductions allowed for injury allowances, veterans’ list payments, finals incentives and other reasons.

 

While the TPP limit per club increased seven per cent in 2012, with the introduction of the GWS Giants, the TPP across the competition increased by 13.3 per cent from $139.6 million to $158.2 million. Gross player payments increased at a slightly lower rate to the 13.3 per cent increase in TPP, up by 13 per cent from $153.7 to $173.7 million.

 

The average player salary for a listed player in 2012 was $251,559, increasing from $237,388 for the 2011 year, with a total of 725 players listed across the competition, not including rookie list players.
