INJURED Adelaide forward Taylor Walker will rely on a dead person's ligament to repair his damaged right knee.

Walker requires surgery to both his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral ligament.

He'll use part of his own hamstring for his ACL reconstruction, but will rely on a donor for the lateral ligament.

"I’m actually going to get an allograft for my lateral ligament which I’ve torn as well, so someone that’s passed away, I get a ligament from them," Walker confirmed on Triple M Adelaide on Friday night.

Walker is not the first footballer to use the technique.

It is understood at least one other AFL player has used a donor ligament in the past.

Winter Olympic gold medalist Alisa Camplin also used the procedure.

Walker sustained the season-ending knee injury in Adelaide's round five loss to Carlton.
