IF HE didn't have Pearce Hanley and Daniel Rich at his disposal on Saturday night, Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss doubts his team would have won.

Both were quiet during the first half as North Melbourne established a 26-point lead, but turned it on after the main break to lead the Lions' revival.

Hanley kicked three goals – all after half-time – to inspire his teammates.

He finished with just 15 disposals, but it was the quality of them that shone bright.

Hanley kicked a brilliant running goal from the boundary line in the third quarter, and then with the game in the balance during the last, baulked, shrugged a tackle and snapped truly on his right foot to seal the result.

Rich was not far behind. He put together a crucial 12-touch third quarter to begin the Lions' turnaround.

The performances were not lost on their coach.

"At half-time … it was important for individuals to turn some of their own performances around," Voss said.

"I thought Daniel and Pearce in the first half were quiet, but without both of them in the second half, then we certainly wouldn't have got that result.

"For them both to have an impact after half-time, was very important to us."

It was particularly important with the Lions missing two of their midfield prime movers.

Brent Moloney (calf) and Simon Black (groin) watched from the grandstands as the Lions moved to a 6-9 win-loss record and within two wins of the top eight.

Voss said finals were "absolutely the furthest thing from my mind" and was more pleased to bask in yet another comeback win.

Voss said he had confidence at three-quarter time his team would finish full of running after kicking the final three goals of that term.

"We were within striking distance, that's all they needed to know," he said.

"That we'd finished off games pretty strong and they should have some confidence in their legs and let it carry them the journey.

"We've had a few of these teams around us on the ladder, a lot the last few years, and we haven't been able to win those ones.

"To do that tonight and (make it) back-to-back wins (was great)."
