GEELONG veteran Paul Chapman is set to make his comeback from a hamstring injury when the Cats' VFL team hosts Collingwood at Simonds Stadium on Friday night.

The 31-year-old three-time premiership player has been sidelined since being struck down by hamstring pain following the win over the Sydney Swans in round four.

"Some good news there," club physio Mike Snelling told CatsTV.

"He's been able to train in the last week.

"He's still got this week's training to get through, and we'd anticipate that if he gets through all of that without any issues, then we should hopefully see him on the park this weekend."

While Chapman has been pencilled in for a VFL hit-out, Corey Enright (foot) and Mathew Stokes (groin), who both missed last weekend's win over Melbourne, are in the mix to return to Geelong's AFL team for Sunday's clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

"Corey has had some plantar fascia problems historically," Snelling explained.

"That was a little bit sore last week, so he didn't come up for the game.

"He also has to go through full training this week to prepare him for this weekend, so we'll assess him later on."

Stokes was a late withdrawal from the team that defeated the Demons.

"Stokesy has had some chronic groin issues," Snelling said.

"We'll have a look at him this week.

"We anticipate that he should get up for the full training session and be available this weekend."

Midfielder Allen Christensen, who also missed the victory over Melbourne, looks set to spend another week in the rehab group.

"He's had a little irritation to his upper hamstring area, and we'll need to assess him this week and determine whether he can train or not," Snelling said.

"That will be the answer as to whether we see him play on the weekend."

Ruckman Nathan Vardy and veteran onballer Joel Corey were sidelined last weekend by the after-effects of concussion, but "they're both going well", according to Snelling.

"They've gone through their graduated exercise testing. They've pulled through that without any symptoms, and they've just got to sit a test that assesses their cognitive function.

"With that being ticked off, then hopefully they'll be available this weekend."

Emerging defender Jed Bews is also back in action after suffering an ankle injury in the warm-up before a VFL game earlier this month.

"Jed's progressing really well," Snelling said. "We'd expect him to get through full training this week.

"He's got to tick off a little bit on his agility running, but we'll look at him at the end of the week and he'll be assessed as to whether he plays this weekend or not."

Another of the club's youngsters, midfielder Jordan Schroder, is getting closer to a return after battling soreness on the outside of his knee for a number of weeks.

"It was a little tendon that's rubbing, and he's done a lot of rehab over the last few weeks and he's going very well," Snelling said.

"He needs to get through training and prove that under fatigue he doesn't have any issues, and then we expect to assess him for the weekend as well."
