EXCITING St Kilda prospect Spencer White will not make his debut this season after opting to undergo wrist surgery.

The young forward, who has shown great promise with VFL club Sandringham this season, cut his first year short with a view to being available for day one of the Saints' 2014 pre-season.

White was recruited with the Saints' second pick (No.25 overall) at last year's NAB AFL Draft, with recruiters comparing the athletic goalkicker to Hawthorn star Lance Franklin.

The 18-year-old offered a glimpse of his ability in a breakout VFL performance in April, taking eight marks against Werribee and kicking 3.3, including an electrifying running goal.

Combining his strong marking ability and rare athleticism, White is expected to eventually succeed captain Nick Riewoldt as the Saints' No.1 power forward.
