STAR Collingwood midfielders Luke Ball and Dayne Beams will undergo fitness tests this week and are no certainty to play against North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

Beams was a late withdrawal from last week's clash against West Coast with back tightness, while Ball was substituted with calf tightness in the third quarter of the game.

"The scans were clear, but he's (Ball) still feeling some tightness," interim Director of Football Rodney Eade told Collingwood's website.

"He’ll be assessed later on this week."

Beams sent the AFL Fantasy football world into a panic when he was listed as a late out on the team sheet, 90 minutes before the clash with the Eagles.

Eade said Beams was progressing nicely.

"He'll train later this week and we'll assess things from there," he said.

Clinton Young (hamstring) was expected to play his first game back in the VFL last week, but the club decided to wait another week.

He is expected to take his place in the Magpies VFL team's elimination final against Port Melbourne on Saturday, in his bid to make himself available for Collingwood's finals campaign.

The medical staff will also keep a close eye on Jamie Elliott (hamstring) and Ben Sinclair (shoulder) as they strive to prove their fitness for this weekend's game.
