HAWTHORN star Jarryd Roughead has held off Travis Cloke and Jeremy Cameron to win this year's Coleman Medal.

The Hawks forward/ruck finished the year with 68 goals, a tally critically boosted by his four-goal haul against the Sydney Swans on Friday night.

Cloke threatened to make a run at Roughead in Collingwood's loss to North Melbourne on Sunday, but despite kicking five goals, he fell two short to finish the home and away season on 66 goals.

Cameron (62 goals) came third after kicking two goals during Greater Western Sydney's loss to Gold Coast.

Roughead was a remarkably consistent goalscorer in 2013, kicking majors in all but one game (round 19 against Richmond).

He kicked five against Greater Western Sydney (round eight), West Coast (round 13), Port Adelaide (round 16) and St Kilda (round 20).

Roughead also managed hauls of four goals seven times.

"I think everyone in the game would love 'Roughy' to win a Coleman Medal – he has spent a fair bit of time in behind 'Bud'," Mitchell said.

"As players, you don't think too much about individual awards, but as a mate of mine, I'd love to go over to his place and see a Coleman Medal hanging there."

The Coleman Medal is Roughead's first individual award at AFL level, and he joins an exclusive list of Hawks in receiving the honour.

Teammate Lance Franklin finished the year on 58 goals, but he has won the Coleman Medal twice before, in 2011 (71 goals) and 2008 (102 goals).

Hawthorn champion Jason Dunstall took it home on three occasions - in 1992 (139 goals), 1989 (128 goals) and1988 (124 goals).

Club legend Leigh Matthews won the award in 1975 with his haul of 67 goals.

The club's rich history of goalkickers continues with Peter Hudson, who became a triple Colman medallist, with big years in 1971 (140 goals), 1970 (146 goals) and 1968 (125 goals).

John Peck also won it three times, taking it home in 1965 (56 goals), 1964 (68 goals) and 1963 (69 goals).
