FORMER Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss says he is likely to step away from coaching for at least 12 months.
Since the Lions parted company with Voss late in the season the three-time premiership captain has been fielding offers for various coaching roles but believes he will more than likely take a step back from the coaching coalface in 2014.
"A couple of things have come up outside of football which I'll more than likely pursue for 12 months," Voss told Gillette Trade Radio.
"So I might be able to cool my jets for a little while.
"I've had a long time to think about it. I just think, I'm 38 years of age, it's not a time to push the fast forward button.
"I'm more than willing to be patient. Some things that might eventuate are doing a little bit of study abroad, I might even entertain writing a book as well as doing some stuff in the media.
"It'll be well spent."
Voss was used as a football analyst for AFL.com.au and Channel Seven during the 2013 finals series having previously worked with Channel 10 at the end of his playing career.
The 1996 Brownlow medallist sought counsel from his friend and mentor John Worsfold during Grand Final week about what was the best move for him following the end of his tenure at the Lions.
"I spoke to Woosha and I spoke about the options of whether you continue on or whether you have a break," Voss said.
"I've coached for five years and it takes a lot out of you and I guess sometimes you have to think if I'm going to move my family to another part of Australia it's got to be the right role but at the same time if it doesn't eventuate we're more than happy to sit for 12 months and explore other things."
