ADELAIDE captain Nathan van Berlo has had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered at training on Monday.

The Crows veteran ruptured his right Achilles tendon during a speed drill at training and was sent for surgery immediately.

Crows club doctor Andrew Potter believes the 27-year-old will be out for at least three months.

"Nathan suffered an injury to his right Achilles tendon at training today. At exploratory surgery, the Achilles tendon was found to be completely ruptured and has been surgically repaired. The recovery time for the injury will be at least three months," Potter said in a club statement.

North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow is yet to resume full training after rupturing his left Achilles tendon against Melbourne last July.

Crows general manager of list development and strategy David Noble said the club will support van Berlo through his rehabilitation.

"It's an unfortunate setback for Nathan, but he's an extremely professional athlete and we know he’ll leave no stone unturned in his recovery," Noble said.

"We'll support Nathan and work with him to ensure he's back on the park as soon as possible."
