KARMICHAEL Hunt has refused to guarantee his future at Gold Coast beyond this season.

The code-switcher has one year remaining on his contract, with significant speculation he could switch back to rugby league.

"Whatever happens at the end of the year will happen, but for the most part I'm just focusing on playing footy," Hunt told AFL.com.au at Metricon Stadium this week.

"Hopefully I can stay injury free and put some good games together this year because I'm enjoying the coast and really looking forward to the year."

Enticed to switch from NRL on mega money, Hunt's acquisition was a promotional coup for the AFL and its new franchise.

While a large chunk of his salary comes from being an ambassador for the code, the 27-year-old doesn't like doing interviews.

"If anything, the only annoyance that I get is the media manager coming up and asking me to do media interviews and that, which I don't like doing," Hunt said.

"That's probably the one thing that annoys me the most about it."

Hunt said his focus was on the season ahead.

A broken toe from a backyard incident over summer has caused a short delay to Hunt's pre-season, but he's confident he's over the injuries that hampered his 2013 campaign.

"Injuries are sort of out of my control, and it was definitely a disappointing year last year in terms of sitting on my bum for the majority of it," he said.

"I'm trying to stay healthy - obviously I haven't been able to do that thus far, I've spent a couple of weeks on the sideline."

Hunt is expecting game-time through the midfield and half forward in 2014, if he does enough to earn his spot.

He insists he's now a much better player now than when he first took up the sport.

"I can't put a percentage on that, but I'm obviously a well more advanced footballer than I was when I got to the Gold Coast," he said.

"My knowledge of the game's obviously grown, attributes in terms of skills have definitely grown as well."
