VICE-CAPTAIN Tom Rockliff has shown his faith in the Brisbane Lions' on-field future, recommitting to the club to the end of 2017.

Rockliff was set to come out of contract at the end of this season, but AFL.com.au revealed on Wednesday that the star midfielder had agreed to a lucrative new three-year deal.

The Lions confirmed Rockliff's new contract on their club website on Wednesday evening.

Securing Rockliff, 24, caps a good week for the Lions, with the club having already re-signed midfielder Jack Redden and forward Josh Green to the end of 2016.

Rockliff, who was recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick No. 5 in the 2009 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft, was critical of Jared Polec last year after the South Australian put up his hand to join an exodus of young Lions from the club.

Rockliff wrote on Twitter last October that Polec had got "ahead of (himself)" by nominating Port Adelaide as his preferred club for a trade after playing 16 matches in three seasons at the Lions.

"How can kids name there (sic) club they want to go to when they have played a handful of games?" Rockliff wrote.

Polec eventually got his desired trade to Port, joining fellow 2010-11 draftees Patrick Karnezis (Collingwood), Billy Longer (St Kilda), Sam Docherty (Carlton) and Elliot Yeo (West Coast) in leaving the Gabba.

Rockliff has played 83 games for the Lions since making his debut in 2009, and won the club's 2011 best and fairest award.

A remarkably consistent performer in the past three seasons, the prolific midfielder finished sixth in the Lions' 2012 best and fairest and equal fourth in last year's count.
