NORTH Melbourne ruckman Daniel Currie has injured his shoulder in a thrilling VFL clash, which saw Essendon hang on to defeat Werribee by one point at Avalon Airport oval.
 
Currie left the field in the second term with a shoulder issue and as a precautionary measure took no further part in the game.
 
He will have his injury assessed by North Melbourne on Sunday night.
 
With Currie down, Kangaroo Majak Daw shared the bulk of the ruckwork with teammate Ben Brown, who finished with three goals for the game.
 
Meanwhile Essendon defender Ariel Steinberg was winded in a marking contest in the last quarter but is expected to be okay despite leaving the field.
 
It was a disappointing finish for the Bomber who was one of the side's best performers in the win.
 
Travis Colyer was also in Essendon's best players, while small forward Kyle Hardingham booted two goals.
 
Youngster Jackson Merrett kicked a goal in his first competitive hit-out since fracturing a finger two weeks ago.
 
Axed Collingwood utility Alex Fasolo has given himself every chance of a speedy return to the senior side, among his side's best in its disappointing VFL loss on Saturday.
 
Fasolo, who was dropped by the Magpies when the final teams landed on Friday evening, did his best to turn the tide in a tough day against Sandringham.
 
The 22-year-old kicked two goals, playing mainly forward, and made the most of the opportunities presented to him.
 
Magpie rookie Kyle Martin also booted two goals, while youngster Ben Kennedy was also lively.
 
Sam Dunell kicked four goals for the Zebras, while Shane Savage and James Gwilt were the other St Kilda players to impress.
 
Geelong forward Shane Kersten put his hand up for his first senior berth after booting six goals in a brilliant effort against Coburg.
 
Midfielders Josh Caddy and Allen Christensen were also prominent, while youngster Jackson Thurlow continues to impress.
 
Western Bulldogs youngster Mitch Honeychurch has moved closer to his senior debut, booting five goals in the club's 36-point win over Port Melbourne.
 
Drafted by the Bulldogs with pick No.60 in last year's draft, Honeychurch has been in superb form in the VFL and gave himself every chance to push his way into the senior side for the first time.
 
Fellow youngster Jake Stringer also kicked three goals.
 
A handful of Melbourne players put their names forward, with Viv MichieJimmy ToumpasLuke Tapscott and Sam Blease all named in the Casey Scorpions' best players.
 
Livewire Jay Kennedy-Harris also responded in strong fashion to his omission.
 
Brad McKenzie (two goals) and Trent Dumont were among the best of the North Melbourne-listed players for the North Ballarat Rosters.
 
Richmond youngster Liam McBean booted three goals in the Tigers' VFL side's seven-point loss to the Northern Blues.
 
McBean is likely to force his way into the senior line-up later this year, while Matt Arnot and Brett O'Hanlon were the other Tigers in the best players.
 
Elevated Carlton rookie Blaine Johnson was the Blues' best player, while Jaryd Cachia and Kane Lucas were also crucial in the win.
 
Hawthorn rookie Dallas Willsmore kicked four goals to lead the Box Hill Hawks in their 21-point win over Williamstown.
 
Midfielder Alex Woodward contributed strongly, as did Sam Grimley (three goals).

Port Adelaide key forward Mason Shaw has starred in attack as the Magpies defeated Woodville West-Torrens by 23 points.
 
The Power's 30th pick in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft booted six goals in the win, while John Butcher kicked three.

Rookie Sam Gray was outstanding with 35 disposals including nine clearances, while midfielder Ben Newton finished with 29 touches, five tackles and seven clearances.
 
Experienced Adelaide forward Jason Porplyzia was his side's best in a narrow loss to Central District.
 
Ricky Henderson, returning from a broken leg, was also listed in the best players, alongside Shaun McKernan.

Eagles rookie ruckman Callum Sinclair shone in East Perth's 75-point demolition of South Fremantle with 21 disposals, eight marks, 20 hit outs and two goals, while young midfielder Dom Sheed backed up his strong showing last week with 20 touches. Josh Hill also kicked two goals.
 
Fremantle ruckman Jonathon Griffin has continued to put his hand up for senior selection with a strong performance in Peel Thunder's loss to Swan Districts.
 
Griffin had 17 disposals, nine marks and 26 hit-outs, while draftee Brady Grey and midfielder Hayden Crozier were also in Peel's best players with 26 and 22 possessions respectively.

Sydney Swans ruckman Toby Nankervis booted five goals to power his side to a 20-point win over Sydney University.
 
Tim Membrey also kicked three goals in the win.
 
Brisbane Lions forwards Jordan Lisle and Jackson Paine were influential for their side, despite a 22-point loss the UWS Giants. 
 
Zak WilliamsMatt Buntine and Kristian Jaksch were in the best players for the Giants, while No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd kicked two goals.
 
Meanwhile Gold Coast rookies Louis Herbert and Leigh Osborne were the best two players in the Suns' 79-point loss to NT Thunder.
 
Jack Hutchins was the Suns' best performer in front of goal, kicking two to be their only multiple goal scorer.
