PORT Adelaide has re-signed emerging pair Aaron Young and Sam Colquhoun until at least the end of 2016.

Young has played nine games this year, taking his total to 26, while Colquhoun managed 10 last season, his first in the AFL.

Power coach Ken Hinkley said 21-year-old Young was improving every week.

“He’s still got lots of upside in him and even on the weekend he gave us a bit of a kick after he came on,” Hinkley said.

“He demonstrates to us consistently that he’s going to be a really strong player for us for a long period of time, so we’re rapt to have him.”

Colquhoun suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier this year while playing for the Magpies in the SANFL.

It was unfortunate timing for the 19-year-old, whose form had him right in the mix for a senior recall.

The club remains confident that he'll be ready to start the pre-season in preparation for 2015.

“Sam, at the time of his injury, was just about right to get back into the side and he’s certainly an important part of our group going forward,” Hinkley said.?

“People have missed the fact that we’ve had a pretty important part of our side missing this year, because we thought his improvement this year was going to be significant.

“We know he’s got a really strong future.

"The knee’s a setback, but we know it’s not going to interrupt a great career for the footy club."
