KURT TIPPETT is a likely inclusion but Rhyce Shaw will be absent when the Sydney Swans take on their cross-town rivals for the first time since their shock defeat back in round one.

Greater Western Sydney stunned the competition with a 32-point victory over the Swans in their season-opening game at Spotless Stadium.

The teams meet again at the SCG on Saturday night, with the Swans enjoying a nine-game winning streak and the Giants coming off consecutive wins for the first time in their short history.

Swans coach John Longmire expects Tippett to return from knee surgery but Shaw has an ankle strain that will likely keep him out for two to three weeks.

Ben McGlynn is also a chance of returning from his broken thumb.

Unbackable favourites heading into round one, the Swans led at every change before being overrun by the upstart GWS outfit.

Longmire wouldn't bite, however, when asked if his side had payback on its mind against its young rivals.

"I'm not picking at that," Longmire told reporters on Monday. "We lost round one, we were poor, we need to win this week.

"What happened in round one happened in round one.

"It stung after the game. We played poorly and they played well.

"If you don’t give your best and the opposition give their best, you're a chance to lose, no matter what the ladder positions are.

"That's no different this week. You can't afford to go into any game and not be at our best."

Shaw, who has been in excellent form, initially feared a much longer stint on the sidelines when he heard a noise as he rolled his ankle in Friday night's comeback win over Richmond.

So the result of his scans came as a relief, with youngster Zak Jones now a chance of earning more game time this week as a consequence of the injury.

Rookie Jones made his debut as a substitute against the Tigers, slotting into the backline following Shaw's injury, and impressing with his poise and attack on the ball.

Gary Rohan is also a chance of a recall for his sixth game of the year when the Swans face a GWS side coming off wins over the Brisbane Lions and Carlton.

Longmire was in the stands as the Giants knocked off the Blues on Sunday and knows his side will need to play well if it wants to continue its winning run.

"They're in good form. They're playing good football," Longmire said.

"I saw them play yesterday and they were really good.

"It just struck me as I was watching them yesterday they've got 17 top-20 selections in their list.

"It's extraordinary the level of talent. I think we've got six.

"But they're also working really hard and they're well coached, so it's no surprise they're a pretty competitive team at the moment.

"They're doing everything right."

Another selection dilemma for Longmire and his match committee is what to do in the ruck, particularly considering the form of GWS recruit and former Swan Shane Mumford.

Mumford was a colossus on Sunday, producing 55 hitouts, 18 disposals, nine tackles and four inside 50s to help will the Giants to their fourth win this year.

Mike Pyke and Tom Derickx combined for 38 hitouts, just nine possessions and six tackles against Richmond.

"It gives us something to think about for this week," Longmire said.

"If Kurt gets through, which we expect he will, it gives us something to think about.

"We'll make that decision on Thursday as far as what the big man stocks looks like, with the full understanding that Mummy is back to his best."
