KURT TIPPETT'S frustrating run with the Sydney Swans has continued, with the star key forward to miss another week with ongoing issues surrounding his troublesome knee.

Tippett missed the opening seven games of the season battling knee tendinitis, returning in round eight and playing the next four games, kicking 12 goals.

He then damaged the meniscus in his knee against Gold Coast in round 12, requiring minor surgery, missing two more games before coming back against GWS in round 15.

There were some whispers Tippett was in doubt for Sunday's game against West Coast in Perth, and while he made the flight, the key forward was a late withdrawal.

He will be absent for this Saturday's game against Carlton, which is followed by a bye, with the club hopeful he could return for the huge clash against Hawthorn on July 26.

"Kurt's not going to play this week," coach John Longmire said on Tuesday.

"He's got a little bit of bone inflammation, which is the reason why he's a little bit sore still.

"We're hopeful of getting him after the bye."

It has been a frustrating run for Tippett, who missed the first half of last year – his first season on the Swans' list – due to suspension before hurting his knee in the semi-final victory over Carlton.

But Longmire was confident he would be able to overcome his knee concerns.

"I'm sure he's disappointed and wants to keep playing, as we are," Longmire said.

"We get him going and he's able to contribute, which he does and he's a very important player for us.

"Then to take another step back and not get another game under his belt is disappointing for him.

"But he'll deal with that and we'll deal with that and we'll get him back after the bye hopefully."

Longmire insisted there was no doubt surrounding Tippett until the team had a run at Patersons Stadium on the Friday before the game against the Eagles.

In other injury news, Zak Jones is expected to be fine this week after he suffered concussion against West Coast.

The Swans also hope injured duo Dan Hannebery and Rhyce Shaw will both be close to returning from ankle problems after the bye.

"They're both not going to do much training this week," Longmire said. "They'll be hopefully doing some running at the back end of the week.

"So we're looking at after the bye as well with those two."
