VFL
Young forward Tim O'Brien will be in the mix to replace Hawthorn spearhead Jarryd Roughead, if the star Hawk is suspended for tripping Melbourne’s Dom Tyson.

A day after Roughead was reported against the Demons, O'Brien produced a two-goal display for Box Hill to be named among the best, along with in-form defender Kyle Cheney, promising ruckman Jonathon Ceglar and midfielder Mitch Hallahan.

A serious leg injury to North Melbourne forward Majak Daw has soured North Melbourne's weekend, with the big man taken to hospital during Werribee's 40-point loss to Footscray.

Bulldogs forward Jarrad Grant had a day out, booting five goals.

Star Kangaroos midfielder Daniel Wells played little part after half-time in his comeback from a long-term foot injury for North Ballarat against Geelong.

Wells received treatment for a kick to his shin but should be available next weekend.

Key defender Joel Tippett made a successful return from a torn pectoral to be one of the Roosters' better players.

A host of Cats' squad members played well, including Josh Walker, Jordan Schroder, Jackson Thurlow and Jake Kolodjashnij.

Meanwhile, Carlton livewire Jeff Garlett booted only one major after a week of controversy in the Northern Blues' 40-point loss to Williamstown.

On Saturday, a best-on-ground performance put young Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy in line to make a timely return ahead of finals.

The Magpies have preferred to persist with Jarrod Witts as their sole ruckman but Grundy's display on Sunday against Essendon may put him back in the selection frame.

Grundy kicked three goals in the Magpies' 17-point win over the Bombers, while recruit Patrick Karnezis was also prominent.

Luke Ball did enough to suggest he might play a part later in the season and the Magpies also got to see their prospective father-son pick – Darcy Moore – in action for the first time.

Tom Bellchambers kicked two goals for Essendon, while Ariel Steinberg – elevated off the senior list last week – did his chances of a debut no harm.

Young Demon Christian Salem kicked two for the Casey Scorpions but Melbourne's VFL affiliate was thoroughly outplayed by Port Melbourne on Saturday.

St Kilda-listed forward Trent Dennis-Lane booted five majors in Sandringham's big 45-point win over Coburg.

Sam Dunell was listed as the Saints' best along with Clint Jones.

WAFL

FREMANTLE star forward Michael Walters is set to be "unleashed" against Hawthorn next week after an impressive performance at WAFL level on Saturday.

Walters, who has not played since having ankle surgery after Fremantle’s round three loss to Hawthorn, collected 19 touches and kicked a goal for Peel Thunder.

Dockers coach Ross Lyon told Channel Seven's pre-game coverage on Saturday night that Walters would be "unleashed" for the game against the Hawks at Patersons Stadium next Sunday.

Anthony Morabito (24 touches) and Jonathon Griffin (33 hit-outs) were also strong performers for the Thunder.

Meanwhile, 192cm utility Brant Colledge has led West Coast affiliate East Perth's 35-point win over Swan Districts.

Colledge collected 22 disposals and booted a goal, while developing ruckman Callum Sinclair continued his great season with 15 possessions, 29 hit-outs and 1.2.

SANFL

A bunch of Adelaide-listed players have pushed their cases for a recall ahead of finals, led by Sam Shaw in the reserves team's 16-point win on Saturday.

Shaw, Sam Kerridge, Shaun McKernan and Matt Crouch were all listed in the bests.

Likely Melbourne father-son choice Billy Stretch was named as Glenelg's best player.

NEAFL

The Sydney Swans would be buoyed by the form of much-talked about midfielder Tom Mitchell, who was listed in the team's best players against Gold Coast.

Mitchell has battled injury and form issues this season but could force his way into the club's best 22 after performing soundly in the Swans' 46-point win.

Tommy Walsh, Zak Jones and Ryan O'Keefe were also highlights for the Swans.

Seb Tape and Karmichael Hunt were the Suns' best.

Veteran Giant Stephen Gilham booted six goals in the UWS Giants' 37-point win over Queanbeyan.

Curtly Hampton and Nathan Wilson were also among the best.
