ONE OF the most emotional scenes in the aftermath of the 2012 Grand Final took place when Sydney Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy walked over to the Hawthorn camp and embraced his grandfather, John Kennedy snr.

A legend at Hawthorn, having coached the club to three premierships, Kennedy snr had been consoling the boys in brown and gold.

But, as television cameras zoomed in on them and photographers crowded around, grandfather and grandson put their football rivalry aside and enjoyed a moment of family time.

Josh, his father John jnr and John snr talk candidly about the importance of family in part four of the series on the Kennedys.

Josh admits he was "very lucky" to grow up in such a revered football family – one that now has eight premierships spread across three generations.

"I probably took it for granted a little bit," he says in the final instalment of AFL Media's four-part series, which includes rare footage of a young Josh growing up.

(Part one of the series focuses on Josh's decision to leave the Hawks and join the Swans, episode two traces the career of club icon John snr, and part three looks at the role John jnr played in four premierships for Hawthorn).

John snr has a different take on the revered bloodline, describing the Kennedys as “an ordinary family…I don’t think it’s anything special.”
