RETIRED ruckman Dean Cox has signed with West Coast as the ruck coach for 2015.

The Eagles games record holder announced his retirement in July with the last of his 290 AFL games coming against Melbourne in round 22 at Patersons Stadium.

Cox had been keen to enter the coaching ranks and filled the role of the Eagles' ruck coach while playing this year. He was involved in match committee meetings at various stages and also travelled as a coach when not playing.

The 33-year-old was prepared to move away from Perth to begin his coaching career but the Eagles were quick to retain in services.

The six-time All Australian will continue to work with Eagles ruckmen Nic Naitanui, Scott Lycett and Callum Sinclair.

Cox told the Eagles website he was ready for the next phase of his career in football.

"I'm really excited at moving into the next chapter of my life," Cox said.

"I'm looking forward to learning from the great coaches we have at football club and working closely with Nic, Cal and Scotty."
