Who were the top performers at this year's NAB AFL Draft Combine?

ONE OF the game's most lateral thinkers says Gold Coast will try things outside the box under new coach Rodney Eade in 2015.

Suns coaching advisor Malcolm Blight, recognised as one of the AFL's most innovative minds, expects Eade to bring a different dimension to the club.

Eade has had just one week as Gold Coast's new coach, but Blight says he has already made an impact.

"It's miniscule, but he's made his mark in the way he'd like to play footy," Blight said.

"Firstly, I think you'll see a slightly different approach to the game, and secondly I think you'll see some outside-the-square thinking, he's that type of coach.

"Hopefully that can help us.

"He won't just go straight down the line I can assure you, he will have some stuff that goes a bit different to what other people think, which is great."

Ablett can get even better, predicts Eade

Blight has played against, coached against and commentated on Eade, and said he had the utmost for the former Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs mentor.

Eade has so far introduced more work with footballs, believing the Suns need to improve their skills and can get conditioning through the same drills.

Blight was speaking alongside draft hopeful Lachie Weller on Monday to launch the NAB AFL Draft week.

Although the Suns have three picks inside the first 30, there is no guarantee they will get the highly-rated Weller, despite the Tasmanian product spending three years in their Academy program.

The younger brother of former Sun and current Saint Mav, Weller had not been in the Suns' system long enough to qualify as an Academy player they could bid on.

"Every club in the AFL is a good club and it's the same opportunity wherever you go," Weller said.

"I'm willing to move, pack up my bags, and I think it'll be a good opportunity to live somewhere else as well."
