DELISTED Carlton midfielder Kane Lucas has been handed a lifeline, joining West Coast in Wednesday's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

The No.12 pick in the 2009 national draft featured in 42 games for the Blues over five injury-interrupted years.

He was shown the door at the end of the 2014 season after playing just seven matches this year.

Lucas' best season came in 2013, when he played 17 matches averaging 18 disposals and kicking nine goals, including a career best 33-disposal day against Collingwood.

The Eagles next two selections were used for their pre-selected rookies Corey Adamson and Paddy Brophy.

Adamson signed with West Coast in August as a non-registered player after ending his baseball career in the United States. He played in a WA schoolboys team alongside Eagles young gun Jack Darling.

Brophy was signed to a two-year contract in October. The 20-year-old Gaelic footballer hails from County Kildare in Ireland and impressed at the Draft Combine after dominating in a game for the European Legion against the AIS-AFL academy in London earlier this year.

West Coast's rookie picks
Selection No.10 – Kane Lucas (Carlton)
General manager of football Craig Vozzo says: "The addition of Kane complements the group of players we secured through the National Draft. We drafted five 18-year-olds in the National Draft and we felt we needed to add a mature player to our squad as well. Kane is a 23-year-old who has played 42 games at the level and he also has good pace. Given a second opportunity in his home town, we believe he can flourish in that environment."

Selection No.28 – Corey Adamson (no club)
Recruiting manager Rohan O'Brien says: "Knowing Corey's background, where he was a very talented junior before taking up an opportunity to sign a contract with the San Diego Padres, we felt this was an opportunity for us to take on a project at no cost under AFL drafting rules. We know Corey, we know his ability and while he hasn't played football for six years we believe he can re-acclimatise and make the adjustment. While he has not been in the football system, he has been entrenched in a professional environment and has shown his commitment to play at a high level, which, coupled with his achievements as a junior footballer, made the decision easy for us."

Selection No.10 – Paddy Brophy (no club)
Recruiting manager Rohan O'Brien says: "I first met with Paddy in London in 2013 when he played for the European Legion against the AFL Academy, he showed some raw talent in that game and looked to have some great attributes to work with. I was impressed with his enthusiasm for the contest and the way he maintained his work rate, despite having played a game of Gaelic football for his county just two days before."
