GOLD Coast defender Steven May has undergone minor knee surgery but is expected to be back in full training within a month.

The 23-year-old had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Thursday morning after injuring it in a marking contest at training last week.

Despite the setback, May said the outcome was a good result.

"The specialist advised it was best for me to have a quick arthroscope, and after the surgery he was confident I'd be back on the track soon," May said.

"There was a chance the injury might have been worse, and that would have put me in doubt for the start of the season, so to be honest, it’s a pretty good outcome."

Senior coach Rodney Eade said the minor surgery wouldn’t hinder May’s preparations for the season.

"The injury isn’t as serious as it could have been and we don’t expect Steven’s pre-season to be impacted too much given he has had a really strong summer," Eade said.

"We anticipate he will resume running in 10 days and full training in three to four weeks."
