A LAST-quarter cameo from young forward Cam McCarthy has put him at the front of Leon Cameron's thinking as he mulls over Greater Western Sydney's forward set-up in 2015.

McCarthy kicked three goals in the final quarter after coming on as a substitute, leading hard at the ball and kicking accurately.

Cameron said the Giants were excited at the way the 19-year-old was progressing as a forward but he still needed time.

McCarthy got a taste for senior football in 2014 when he played the final game of the season, and shapes as a potential third forward alongside Jeremy Cameron and Adam Tomlinson, while Jonathon Patton is sidelined with a knee injury.

"We've been patient with him. It's only his second year," Cameron said.

"These key-position players just take time, but for him to come on and show those sort of signs in the last 25 minutes of the game was terrific."

His efforts blew the game open as the Giants overran the tiring Suns.

Cameron said it was a solid performance and he was pleased with performances of experienced recruits Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull.

Griffen was brilliant with 31 touches while Patfull controlled the defence after half-time.

The coach was also satisfied with the efforts of ruckmen Andrew Phillips and Tom Downie who worked hard in the absence of Shane Mumford.

Their performances gave the coach something to think about.

"[We] could go in with two ruckmen coming into round one and we're exploring that over the next couple of weeks," Cameron said.

On the flipside, Cameron acknowledged that the Giants over-possessed the ball a little too much for his liking but he understood it was better to be finding the ball too much, rather than not enough.

"Sometimes the best thing is to bring it forward," Cameron said.

It would be an issue to address during the week ahead of the Friday night clash at home against Essendon.

But for now he was content. He had a result to top off a good week for the club.

Cameron has been around football long enough to know you have to enjoy the good weeks because the bad weeks will come.
