NATHAN Krakouer will be forced to wait a little longer for his return to AFL football, with the running defender named as one of Port Adelaide's substitutes in Sunday's NAB Challenge game against West Coast at Norwood Oval.

Krakouer began his AFL career with the Power before joining Gold Coast in 2010, but quit citing personal reasons after just 13 games for the Suns in 2011.

He was drafted as a rookie by the Power late last year and the club expects him to roam across half-back in 2015.

The Power dropped Jared Polec, Jack Hombsch and Matthew Broadbent out of their side, while Krakouer and young midfielder Karl Amon will start the game in green vests.

The Eagles cut first-year player Alec Waterman, defender Rowen Powell and veteran defender Shannon Hurn.

The club's first pick at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, Liam Duggan, and small forward Malcolm Karpany will start as subs.

NORTH MELBOURNE v HAWTHORN
Deakin Reserve (Shepparton), Sunday, March 8, 4.40pm AEDT

BEN McEvoy will not play in Sunday's NAB Challenge match against North Melbourne at Shepparton's Deakin Reserve after the premiership ruckman was among the three omissions from Hawthorn's initial squad.

McEvoy played in the Hawks' round one NAB Challenge loss to Collingwood in Launceston, but was left out of Hawthorn's final team for the Roos clash, along with forward James Sicily and defender Angus Litherland.

North fans will have to wait at least another game to see the club's first pick at last year's NAB AFL Draft in action after Sam Durdin was among the three players cut from North's squad. Second-year midfielder Trent Dumont and veteran defender Scott McMahon were also left out.

Hawthorn named midfielder Alex Woodward and first-year ruckman Marc Pittonet as its substitutes, the Roos opting to start forwards Majak Daw and Ben Brown in the green vests.
