WEST Coast midfielder Luke Shuey limped off with an ankle injury during Sunday's big win over the Brisbane Lions, but Eagles coach Adam Simpson is optimistic of a speedy recovery.

Shuey was a solid contributor in the 53-point win, but hobbled off during the third quarter and headed straight to the Eagles' rooms.

In his post-match press conference, Simpson said there was hope the midfielder would be available to play Greater Western Sydney at Domain Stadium next Saturday.

"He rolled his ankle. I don't really know too much more, but I think it's on the better side," Simpson said.

"We've got a five-hour flight coming up, so we've got to do all the right things.

"Hopefully he pulls up well. We'll manage him through the week.

"We may have to scan it, we may not, but I think it's just a rolled ankle."

It took some gloss off a thumping win that moved the Eagles to 2-2 ahead of playing the much-improved Giants.

Simpson said he was confident West Coast had the depth to cover Shuey if he was ruled out, pointing to Mark Hutchings and Brant Colledge as solid WAFL performers who could step in.

He said that after they were hammered early by Fremantle last week, the Eagles had a big focus on the first quarter against the Lions.

They responded, kicking five goals to one and forcing the Lions into a host of turnovers that led directly to goals.

"The way we turned up last week against Fremantle was disappointing, so it had been a big focus on the start of the game," Simpson said.

"I thought our pressure early and intensity in the game was up and we got reward for effort.

"If you get on the front foot and take the game on I think you're every chance of winning.

"Unfortunately last week we waited and we played a really good side in Fremantle who put us to the sword, so it was a real focus of ours."
