VETERAN midfielder Dennis Armfield has re-signed with Carlton for 2016.

As forecast by AFL.com.au two weeks ago, Carlton has finalised a new one-year deal with Armfield, confirming the signing on Wednesday.

Armfield, who turns 29 in December, became a free agent at the end of the 2015 season, but will now extend his career at Ikon Park into a ninth season.

Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said Armfield was a valuable member of the Carlton playing group, on and off the field.

"Dennis is the kind of person who puts his heart into everything he does, both on the track and away from it," McKay said.

"At the club he leads by example with his inclusiveness and the way he approaches training, while in the community he sets a tremendous example through his involvement at the Royal Children's Hospital and with Odyssey House Victoria."

Armfield has played 125 games for Carlton since being recruited from WAFL club Swan Districts with pick No.46 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.

The West Australian won this year's Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award for his off-field work.
