GUN ADELAIDE defender Brodie Smith has secured his immediate future at West Lakes, signing a new two-year deal.

Smith's new contract means he will play for the Crows until at least the end of the 2018 season.

The 24-year-old won All Australian selection in 2014 was the League's leading player in terms of metres gained last year despite concussions hampering the first half of his campaign.

He said it was an easy decision to re-commit.

"I’m really enjoying my football at the Crows and think we have an exciting playing group, who are all working hard towards achieving team success," Smith said.

"To have the chance to run out with my mates in front of 50,000 fans week-in, week-out at Adelaide Oval is an amazing experience and something that I will continue to look forward to."

Coach Don Pyke was understandably pleased his side had locked the talented defender down.

Smith's penetrating kick off half-back is a crucial element of Adelaide's game plan and Pyke said he also helped "drive the elite standards" at the club.

"Brodie is an exciting talent and a player with a unique skill set who continues to improve his game," Pyke said.

"He has an outstanding work ethic and is developing his leadership to drive the elite standards at our club."

Smith's commitment follows that of fellow defender Daniel Talia last week, who signed a five-year contract extension.
