BRAD Scott says North Melbourne will persist with frustrating but talented big man Majak Daw after watching him take "almost the best mark I've ever seen" against Collingwood on Friday night.

The best and worst of Daw was on display at Etihad Stadium, with fans tearing their hair out after the 195cm forward also gave away two 50m penalties for encroaching in the 10m protected zone around the mark in the second quarter.

But the athletic big man's huge climb over Jonathon Marsh in the next term will stick longest in the memory, as he soared above the Magpies defender to cleanly take a mark of the year contender.

Although Daw dropped some easier marking attempts and could've kicked a simple goal in the first quarter from 15m if he got the ball to his boot quicker, Scott had no hesitation declaring the Roos would persist with the Sudanese-born big man.

He is out of contract at the end of the season after managing just 20 games in seven seasons with North Melbourne.

"Absolutely, we've invested a lot in Maj and Maj has invested a lot of hard work," Scott said in his post-match press conference.

"We'll probably have to do a little bit of work on the 10m protected area and a few other things," Scott said with a laugh.

"You're going to drop marks … I only saw it live, I didn't watch the replay, but that was almost the best mark I've ever seen. He can do incredible things and we'll just keep working with him.

"We've got confidence in him."

Daw, who came into the side for his fourth game this season after Jarrad Waite's sore hip flared up, relieved Todd Goldstein in the ruck, although the duo were beaten by in-form Pies big man Brodie Grundy.

Five talking points: Collingwood v North Melbourne

"(I though Goldstein and Daw did) pretty well, I don't think we dominated that area, I thought Brodie Grundy did pretty well and competed pretty hard," Scott said.

"But it was a step in the right direction."

Daw finished the match with seven touches, three marks and 11 hit-outs, while Goldstein kicked a late goal from 13 disposals and had 21 hit-outs.

Grundy was among Collingwood's best players with 19 disposals, 29 hit-outs and four marks continuing his stellar patch of form.
