A HAMSTRING setback restricted emerging West Coast midfielder Liam Duggan to light duties, while recruit Nathan Vardy and utility Elliot Yeo were also held out of the Eagles' intraclub practice match on Wednesday.

Duggan is battling a minor leg issue, with the bulked-up third-year Eagle walking and running around the boundary at Wembley Sports Park as his teammates slogged through a three-hour session in scorching conditions.

It is unclear whether the 20-year-old will be available for the start of West Coast's JLT Community Series campaign against Greater Western Sydney on February 18.

Meanwhile, former Geelong big man Vardy is being managed after recently copping a knock to his medial ligament, a slight setback to the injury-plagued 25-year-old's career-best pre-season.

Career-best shape: Vardy set for rucking role

Vardy and Yeo, who is battling a minor calf complaint, joined in skills drills and ran laps but both continue to be sidelined from contact work.

Top draftee Daniel Venables, taken with pick No.13 last November, was also kept out of the scratch match and completed extra running as he builds up his workload after arriving at the club nursing a foot issue.

Star ruckman Nic Naitanui (ACL), sidekick Scott Lycett (PCL) and Simon Tunbridge (ACL) were not sighted at training as they recover from long-term knee injuries.

A sizzling cameo by speedster Lewis Jetta and Jack Darling's aerial display highlighted West Coast's intraclub, played across 10-minute quarters as the temperature pushed 35 degrees.

Jetta, the former Swan who struggled in his first season in Perth last year and was dropped three times, was everywhere during the opening half, showcasing his classy foot skills and twice finding Darling deep in attack.

Darling dominated early going for the blue team, highlighted by a strong pack mark 10m out from goal, and finished with three majors.

Electric goalsneak Willie Rioli showed why he has excited coach Adam Simpson, slotting a long set shot but also working hard up the ground and applying defensive pressure.

The 21-year-old recruit is set for an opportunity during the Eagles' pre-season campaign and could put himself in the mix for a round one debut against North Melbourne.

Ex-Kangaroos key forward Drew Petrie competed strongly in the ruck against Jonathan Giles, helping prolific onballers Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell hand the blue team an early ascendancy.

But the yellow outfit fought back, with father-son recruit Jake Waterman slotting two set shots, including a tough shot from the boundary despite Simpson's attempt to distract the 18-year-old.

Reigning club champion Luke Shuey and Andrew Gaff got on top in midfield, while veterans Josh Kennedy and Mark LeCras hit the scoreboard, leading the yellow side to an 8.2 (50) to 5.4 (34) victory.

Finishing the gruelling session with some gut-busting laps, the Eagles' players were made to work for their four-day break before resuming training next Monday.
