THE WESTERN Bulldogs have locked away an important part of its future with key playmaker Caleb Daniel declaring it was a "no-brainer" to re-sign with the premiers until the end of 2019.

The premiership midfielder has become an important cog in the Bulldogs' line-up, with the South Australian's sure hands, smart skills and football IQ standout attributes.

Daniel, 20, has averaged 19 possessions, three marks and three tackles in 34 games in his two seasons at Whitten Oval, and was runner-up in the 2016 NAB AFL Rising Star award.

"(To re-sign) was pretty much a no-brainer," Daniel told westernbulldogs.com.au.

"The way we as a football club are able to get around each other and I guess, love each other, is pretty special to me, and that's why I loved to stay around."

Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney was pleased to retain the services of a player he helped recruit with the bargain selection of pick 46 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"Caleb has achieved a significant amount in his young career and we're really pleased to extend his contract by a further two seasons," McCartney said.

"His professionalism and his determination to succeed are an inspiration to his teammates, and we look forward to his continued development."

McCartney has had an outstanding last few years retaining young talent at Whitten Oval, securing Marcus Bontempelli and Lachie Hunter until end of 2019, and Tom Liberatore, Luke Dahlhaus, Jake Stringer and Jack Macrae until end of the 2018.

Dashing defender Jason Johannisen is the only big name at the Dogs yet to be re-signed beyond this season.
