The Saints have shown faith in promising defender Daniel McKenzie

ST KILDA defenders Daniel McKenzie and Brandon White have both committed to the club for another two years.

The deals see them re-signed until the end of 2019.

McKenzie, 20, played nine matches last year to take his career tally to 16.

The tough, pacy left-footer can also play on a wing, with his line-breaking ability one of his prime attributes.

He told saints.com.au it was a relief to have a new deal locked up before the season began.

"To get that confirmed at the start of the year is really good for the self-confidence. Now I can just go out and play my game without having to worry about what’s happening in the future," McKenzie said.

"(I’ve focused on) a bit of consistency (over the pre-season). I’ve been injured here and there over the last few pre-seasons but this year I’ve been on the track pretty much every session and that was one of my goals and I was able to achieve that.

"I transitioned at the end of last season from a winger to a half-back and I’m just sticking to that half-back at the moment."

He spent much of the first half of last year in the VFL but played seven of the Saints' last eight games.

McKenzie was drafted at No. 22 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

White made his debut in the final game of last season against the Brisbane Lions after being selected at No. 40 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, and booted a goal to showcase his left foot.

The half-back flanker's speed and aggression are two of his stronger traits.

"My fitness is good. It’s obviously one of my weaknesses so it’s one of the key things I’ve been trying to work on over my first two pre-seasons. I’m feeling pretty good and I’m feeling confident in the body," White said.

Both had been due to come out of contract at the end of 2017.
