ESSENDON captain Dyson Heppell will be fit to face West Coast at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon despite requiring stitches in his left hand after an accident with his microwave.

The midfielder told essendonfc.com.au he was preparing dinner last Sunday and was injured when he went to catch a plate he had dropped.

"The other night on my birthday, I was defrosting some steaks in the microwave, went to grab the plate out of the microwave and dropped it. Got the fumbles," Heppell said.

"I went to catch it again and the plate had smashed on the bench and I put a good gouge in my hand.

"I rang the doc straight away and he got a couple of stitches to fix the hand."

Despite being restricted early in the week at training, Heppell had no doubts he would be fit for the Eagles clash.

"I'll be cherry ripe. I've just had the last couple of days doing one-handed stuff and main training (will be) on Thursday. I'll be right to go then and ready to tear in on Sunday," he said.

Heppell, 25, has played every game this season and averaged 26 disposals, with the Bombers sitting in 11th spot with a 4-4 record.
