PORT Adelaide forward Angus Monfries is set for another stint on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury on Sunday.

The 210-game veteran – who hasn't played in the AFL since 2015 – injured his calf in Port Adelaide's 128-point thumping of West Adelaide in the SANFL at Alberton Oval.

Monfries didn't play in the final three quarters of the game.

The 30-year-old missed all of last season serving a 12-month anti-doping suspension as part of the Essendon supplements saga.

Shoulder and hamstring injuries interrupted his pre-season, but Monfries had returned to form in the past month and was a chance of being recalled for Saturday's clash with the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval.

Ruckman/forward Dougal Howard pushed his claims for a senior recall booting eight goals, while Aaron Young kicked five.
