WEST Coast coach Adam Simpson was "a bit surprised" Will Schofield was offered a one-match ban for striking Clayton Oliver, and says the Eagles are weighing-up challenging the sanction.

Meanwhile, dual Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy (calf/Achilles) has been ruled out of Saturday's crunch away game against the Western Bulldogs, and skipper Shannon Hurn is also doubtful after a heavy hit from Jack Viney.

In a controversial incident, Schofield's glancing elbow caught Melbourne youngster Oliver's chin during a half-time scuffle in the Demons' thrilling three-point win on Saturday night.

The Demon collapsed to the ground immediately and social media lit up with criticism of the 19-year-old for staging.

Oliver, who was later caught up in a Twitter spat with former Test batsman and Eagles fan Damien Martyn, said he was shocked by the Schofield clip.

The Match Review Panel on Monday graded the incident as intentional with low impact to Oliver's head, after taking Melbourne's medical report into account.

Schofield risks a two-game suspension if he challenges the sanction at the Tribunal on Tuesday night but the Eagles are considering their options.

"I just hope Clayton's OK. I hope he made the flight back," a tongue-in-cheek Simpson told 6PR.

"We're going to look at it (challenging).

"All the commentary around it, you sort of accept it from media outlets, but when players get involved it's probably another issue that we've got to look into.

"We can't dispute the medical report. Also, I'm one of the people who can't comment on it either, so we'll let it run its course and we'll get on with it.

"We've just got to weigh-up whether it's worth taking on or not.

"(I'm) a bit surprised about it all but we'll work through it and make a decision in the morning."

Simpson revealed Eagles captain Hurn was in doubt for the Dogs game after a heavy collision with Demons skipper Jack Viney in the dying stages of a fiery clash.

Hurn, who earlier collected Viney on the shoulder with a solid bump during the third quarter, wasn't on the training track on Monday.

"He (Hurn) was caught high and he was knocked out, so I dare say he might not be available this week," Simpson said.

"He took a really big hit and we'll see how he pulls up."

Star goalkicker Kennedy was restricted to running drills and marking exercises away from the main group at training while the session was open to media.

The 29-year-old pushed to play in the past two games, however Simpson confirmed Kennedy will now miss a fourth-straight match.

"Normally JK would knock on the door and tell us he's right to go, he just hasn’t done that until today, which tells us he's a week away," he said.

"We'll get him back next week."

Veteran forward Mark LeCras (hip) didn't train on Monday, while Jackson Nelson (hamstring) was on light duties.

Meanwhile, Simpson said youngster Luke Partington was in the mix to debut after booting four goals for East Perth on Saturday.
