GREATER Western Sydney is expecting star forward Toby Greene to face Geelong at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night despite a training scare.

Greene completed the Giants' final training session of the week on Friday morning, a sharp 20-minute skills session at the WestConnex Centre, before leaving the track with the club's medical staff.

GWS officials confirmed to AFL.com.au that the 2016 club champion had been assessed because of slight ankle soreness, but the issue isn't expected to force him out of Saturday night's top-four blockbuster against the Cats.

The 23-year-old has backed up his 40-goal All Australian season with another 30 so far from 11 games in 2017, and would be a massive loss to the Giants, who are already without Zac Williams (hamstring), Tim Taranto (ankle) and Harry Himmelberg (finger) from the 22 that beat the Brisbane Lions by 60 points last week.

In better news, Josh Kelly (hip), Devon Smith (knee) and Rory Lobb (groin) have all been recalled for the Geelong game.
