GREATER Western Sydney defender Jeremy Finlayson is expected to miss the next six weeks after injuring his knee on debut against Geelong on Saturday night.

Finlayson hurt the medial ligament in his left knee when he was tackled close to the Cats' goal during the second quarter and played no further part in the game.

It's a tough break for the GWS academy product who had worked hard to earn his first game and showed some good signs before he went down.

The loss of the promising 21-year-old adds another name to the Giants' worrying injury list that already contains the likes of Stephen Coniglio (ankle), Brett Deledio (calf), Ryan Griffen (ankle), Jacob Hopper (ankle) and Tim Taranto (ankle).

The good news for GWS is that Toby Greene (ankle) and Zac Williams (hamstring) could be fit to take on Hawthorn in Launceston on Saturday after they were late withdrawals last week.

Greene struggled with his injury for most of the week, while Williams pulled up sore after last Wednesday's main session at Spotless Stadium.

Sam Reid is also likely to face the Hawks after he picked up a minor ankle injury against Geelong, but managed to play out the drawn round 15 match.
